OMA'OMA'O

I'VE BEEN AN ASPIRING HEALTH NUT/ FOODIE OBSESSED FOR QUITE SOME TIME NOW. DURING MY FIRST PREGNANCY I ACTUALLY BECAME VERY CURIOUS AS TO INGREDIENTS IN OUR FOOD AND THE ACTUAL HEALTH BENEFITS WE ARE OR ARE NOT RECIEVING FROM WHAT WE EAT. (MY MOTO NOW WHEN IM EATING IS NOT ONLY HOW AM I GOING TO GET FULL BUT HOW IS THIS OF NUTRITIONAL SIGNIFICANCE TO ME). MANY FOOD SCIENCE HEALTH AND NUTRITION CLASSES, MICROBIOLOGY CLASSES AND COUNTLESS BOOKS LATER  I STARTED ON A HEALTH QUEST FOR MYSELF AND MY SOON TO BE DAUGHTER. ORGANIC WASNT QUITE A THING YET HERE IN THE ISLANDS AND THE LABELING WASNT ANYTHING NEAR WHAT IT IS TODAY, BUT AFTER ASKING COUNTLESS QUESTIONS AND DOING ALOT OF RESEARCH I BECAME AN INFORMED GROCERY SHOPPER MAKING THE DECISIONS I FELT TO BE BEST FOR MY FAMILY AND I. FAST FORWARD TO NOW, GREEN SMOOTHIES AND JUICING ARE SOME OF OUR FAVORITE QUICKIES IN THE MORNING. THE KIDS LOVE MAKING GREEN JUICE IN BATCHES TOO.  BELOW IS A RECIPE FOR ONE OF OUR FAVORITES LOVED BY EVEN THE MINIEST IN OUR GANG.

OMA'OMA'O: the name is inspired by our favorite book naming colors in Hawaiian. It is Hawaiian for the color green.

Juicer: You can use any juicer really, there are added benefits when you use a slow masticating juicer rather than a centrifugal but really its better to juice than not at all. I'll list some juicing facts i've found to be helpful along with links to where you can buy them below.

Ingredients:

4 Stalks of Celery

1 Lemon

1 piece of ginger (you can add or reduce depending on how gingery you'd like it)

4 pieces of Kale

1 cucumber

1/2 a pineapple

JUICE AND ENJOY, YOU CAN DOUBLE TO MAKE MORE OR 1/2 TO MAKE LESS. THERE ARE SO MANY HEALTH BENEFITS TO THIS JUICE. CELERY IS KNOWN TO REDUCE BLOOD PRESSURE, GINGER IS ANTIVIRAL, KALE IS A GOOD SOURCE OF FIBER AND PLANT PROTEIN, PINEAPPLE IS AMAZING FOR THINNING MUCOUS SECRETIONS AND HELPING WITH BRONCHIAL SICKNESS AND CUCUMBERS ARE MY GO TO VEGGIE FOR CELLULAR HYDRATION. ITS A LIGHT JUICE NOT TOO HEAVY AND GREAT QUICK SNACK OR BREAKFAST ESPECIALLY DURING THOSE HOT SUMMER DAYS!

JUICERS:

CENTRIFUNGAL VS MASTICATING

CENTRIFUNGAL JUICER: JUICER FRUITS AND VEGGIES USING A BLADE SPINNING AND CUTTING YOUR PRODUCE VERY QUICKLY. THEY ARE SAID TO OXIDIZE MUCH QUICKER THAN MASTICATING JUICERS AND PRODUCE LESS YIELD. ALSO NUTS CANNOT BE USED IN CENTRIFUGAL JUICERS.

MASTICATING JUICER: EXTRACT JUICE BY CRUSHING AND THEN PRESSING YOUR PRODUCE. ITS A SLOWER JUICING PROCESS BUT IT PRODUCES A HIGHER YIELD OF JUICE. BECAUSE ITS A SLOWER PROCESS THEY DO NOT OXIDIZE AS QUICKLY WHICH IS WHY MOST PEOPLE CLAIM THEM TO BE THE HEALTHIER ROUTE. THERE ARE ALSO MANY OTHER FEATURES MOST MASTICATING JUICERS HAVE SUCH AS THE ABILITY TO MAKE NUT MILKS AND PEANUT BUTTER.

OMEGA MASTICATING JUICER IS MY FAVORITE, ITS BEEN AROUND WITH THE SAME DESIGN FOR AWHILE. SOME PEOPLE OPT FOR THE FANCIER ONES BUT THIS ONE HAS SEEMED TO HOLD ITS PLACE AS ONE OF THE BEST

It does run a little more than centrifugal juicers but in the end it will last and end up being much cheaper too.

At the bottom of all Juice recipes I will have a breakdown of the benefits of each ingredient.
